It’s finally Spring! When the weather starts warming up we naturally have the inclination to follow nature’s suit and change up the scenery. Maybe you’re inspired by Marie Kondo-nation and will use the momentum to spring clean and declutter your home. Awesome, do it! It’s the best thing, not just for your home decor, but for your mental health. Less clutter = Less stress. I love a good de-cluttering session, it’s my therapy.
While you’re in the spring cleaning mode of thinking, here are three other ways you can partake in this season. In traditional medicine, a transition in the season and specifically the spring is the time for cleansing. Just think, in a few months we’ll be in the full bloom of summer and buzzing with activity. So clear out the winter layers to make space for Spring and Summer!
Three ways to spring clean, beyond your home
- Support your body’s detoxification. During a change in season, our bodies are primed for a diet shift. Do you find yourself craving different foods – lighter meals and perhaps more fresh fruits and veggies? I’m a huge proponent of seasonal eating, not only because foods in season taste better but they retain their nutrients and the natural cycle of produce supports what our bodies need. Add in the season’s green veggies and herbs into your diet for their detoxifying and alkalizing powers! An easy way to add in more greens is through a smoothie. You can try this one that’s packed with green goodness. Also sip on some good old water to stay hydrated to flush your system.
- Clean out your pantry. Toss expired items, half eaten bags of who knows what, any junk food. You know what to toss, I don’t need to tell you, just do it. You’ll remove the foods that aren’t serving you and finally see the back of the cabinet and what’s lingering in there. One of the best ways to meal prep and save money on groceries is to shop your own pantry. While you’re cleaning out, make note of what you have and get inspired to use them up!
- Do a quarterly check-in. We’re into the second quarter of 2019! Revisit any new years resolutions you made. Take a look at the goals you made for yourself – what’s working, what’s not? Assess and edit out what is not working and set a new path. This is a great time to reset your intentions and use the momentum of a new season and all that cleaning and clearing you’re doing to recommit or rethink some of your goals.
Which one of these ideas are you ready to dive into, let me know!
