Elderberry Syrup

Elderberry Syrup is a delicious way to prevent colds and shorten symptoms at its onset. This is a recipe I use at home with my family and my kids come running when I say it's elderberry time! I personally have seen the benefits during many cold seasons and hope you try this natural remedy!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups dried elderberries
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 4-5 cloves
  • 2 tbsp chopped ginger root
  • 1 lb raw honey

Instructions

  1. In a heavy bottomed pot, combine water, elderberries, all the spices and bring to a boil.

  2. Cover and bring to a simmer for 45 minutes - 1 hr to reduce the liquid down for a concentration of the elderberry.

  3. Remove pot from heat and mash the berries with a wooden spoon to extract as much juice from it as possible.

  4. Strain the liquid in a fine mesh strainer or a cheese cloth (if you don't mind staining).

  5. Measure the amount of liquid that you strained and mix in the same amount of raw honey.

  6. Transfer to a glass bottle and keep refrigerated. It should last 3-6 months in the fridge.

Recipe Notes
